Thorn by Anna Burke

You know how sometimes words just don’t give adequate justice to feelings. Well, this review is never going to do justice to this book; so, if you want to skip it and just head to the buy now section, I’m totally okay with that.

What was the book about?
This book is a lesbian retelling of Beauty and the Beast but with more emotion, more spine-tingling moments, and well, just more everything.

Featured Tropes:
Ice Queen, Fantasy, Favourites shelf

Book Strengths:
Okay, so let’s start with the fact that Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favourite Disney movies. I was always so freaking jealous of that Library in the beast’s castle. So, to find this gem of a book for my, now Lesfic obsessed, brain was quite the discovery. Anna Burke is able to weave her own twists and turns that almost made it an original.

I think what I found so compelling was that the writing just drew me into the story from the beginning and led me into Anna Burkes imagination. Which let me tell you, I may never recover from.

Rowan was everything that all the little girls grow up wanting to be, or they should. She’s caring, fearless, engaging, smart, and powerful. She becomes the mistress of her own power, and its goddamn amazing to watch it happen. Her family means everything to her, but the desire and love she has for the Huntress takes her to a whole other level.

The Huntress is the epitome of what makes an Ice Queen. She distant and reserved but also commanding. She’s a fierce leader, but when she is showing Rowan her feelings, like most Ice Queens, it’s magical to see it all unfold.
It’s just a magical story, really!

Character Chemistry:
The intimate & emotional chemistry between The Huntress and Rowan is beautiful, and it is heightened by the fact that to everyone else the Huntress is a woman to be feared. The sexual chemistry I would imagine to be off the chart because, even as a fade to black book, the sexual tension is almost unbearable.

Wrap up:
This is the first book I’ve read by Anna Burke, and without a shadow of a doubt, it will not be my last. In years to come, I’ll look back and remember the first time I picked this book up and how it left me in awe (I’ll have probably reread it thousands of times by then). Don’t wait any longer… go buy this book now! You’re welcome!
