And boom! Another phenomenal book by Anna Burke
What was the book about?
Robyn has been forced into Sherwood Forest after she makes an unlawful mistake that could ruin her family further. She plans to stay hidden, but meeting a new friend in little John starts her on a new path of risking it all to help the people she loves.
When she stumbles upon an injured woman in the forest, she decided to help the fair maiden. Little does she know that this woman will change her life (and her heart) forever.
Book Strengths
Nottingham was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. In all honesty, this review is after my second reading of this book because I struggled to review it after the first read. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because I adored it so much that words escaped me in how to describe how much I loved this book. It truly is outstanding.
Anna Burke had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation, and then she threw me a curveball that kept me guessing. This is not the fairytale we all remember. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still very much the story of the Robin, the Princes of Thieves (Maybe Princess of Thieves?), but it’s so much more.
Robin Hood is one of my favourite childhood stories and more often than not, I wanted to be Robin, not Marian, but I was always forced into the Maid Marian role because I was a girl. But this book made all my childhood dreams come true. I’ve already got Anna’s version in my head for my son’s next bedtime story… just need to miss out a few adult scenes and remember that it’s now Robyn with a Y.
I’m not going to go into the character development of Marian and Robyn because you should just buy the book and enjoy the ride. Because Robyn and Marian might be my new favourite characters in Lesfic. As for the rest of the crew, Will Scarlett, Little John, Tuck, and Midge to name a few, star in unexpected but worthy roles and honestly the story wouldn’t have been as epic without them.
Character Chemistry
Ok, so the chemistry between Marian and Robin is undeniable. Their connection and love is beautiful and all-encompassing.
There is also a friendly chemistry between Robyn and Little John. They have instant comradery and it deepened into a friendship that was more of a close sibling relationship rather than a fast friendship. I loved the scenes John and Robyn as much as the ones with Marian and Robyn.

Conclusion
This is an extraordinary book that has left me in flux for the second time. Anna Burke is a remarkable writer, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come next… maybe another fable from the Tales of Robyn Hood? Who knows! I do know this, though… I’ll be at the front of the queue.
