A fun romantic romp

What was the book about?
Penny Rothmoor is the heir to a successful casino in Las Vegas but apart from that nothing seems to be going right for her. Her father’s response to the situation is to put Penny on an extended break from her role as Operations Manager. For a workaholic like Penny this is a disaster and all on the day that she is supposed to meet her Mother’s long-lost friend. Lauren Hansen, a successful artist has troubles of her own. Initially on her way to her 10th anniversary vacation she finds herself in Vegas sans partner and wondering how she will spend the holiday alone. Out of obligation to her friend, Lauren still wants to meet up with her daughter. Their initial meeting is quite literally by accident and from there to a quite dinner they end up in a bar with Penny’s friends. After a full-on night of tequilla and a promise made to meet Lauren in Hawaii so they can both have a vacation without worrying about their individual problems, Penny takes the plane to join Lauren. Sea, sun surf and well who knows when you are just being Vacation People!

Book Strengths
For a debut novel it’s great. This book is fast moving and a fun enjoyable read and it doesn’t pretend to be anything else. The main characters are possibly too good to be true but isn’t that what fiction and escapism is all about? The sex scenes were hot and not overdone. I’d really like to read Cheri Ritz’s next novel.

Book Weaknesses
A minor thing for me is that the reader knows that there is age gap between the main characters, but it isn’t really mentioned or elaborated on.

Character Chemistry:
Penny and Lauren’s relationship develops relatively slowly but took off in the end. I would have expected more in relation to the obvious age gap though. However, that didn’t take away from the story. 

Wrap up
Fun read for a debut novel. I will be looking out for more books by this author.
