Potential rivals – can love bring them together or tear them apart?
What was the book about?
This book is in the universe which was created for “Don’t Cry for Me” and you get snippets of Josie and Eve here and there which is great. However, this time around you meet Julia “Jules” Vega and Sophie Rindell. Both are actresses who meet at an audition for the lead role of Bianca in “It’s in Her Kiss”. When Jules is cast in the lead after years of auditioning and bit parts, she is ecstatic. Sophie has also been auditioning for roles for ten years and thought she had a shoe in for the role. The play itself could almost be a reflection of Jules’ life and the fears and excitement she feels when finally understand who she really is and how she wants to live her life. But real life isn’t as easy and simple as a character on the stage.
Coming out, rivals to lovers, romance
I got a kick out of how this book connected to “Don’t Cry for Me” but was it’s own story. We had seen a tiny glimpse of Jules there when she adopted two of the kittens originally saved by Eve. The rivalry although not full-on could still be felt and the disappointment experienced by Sophie in not getting the role of her dreams was palpable. Sophie’s experience with her ex and it weighing heavily on any possible relationship was an underlying thread through the story and makes both her and Jules’ decisions extremely important and give strength to the story. Oh and can Ms Lacey write sex scenes…yes she sure can!!
There is a certain amount of inevitability of Jules and Sophie getting together and when they do its electric. Whether its a touch of a hand, a light kiss or crippling doubt you can feel it through both of them. And yes, the sex is off the charts.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. I felt happy while I was reading it and was totally invested in both characters. This is a stand-alone novel but part of the Midnight in Manhattan series and I would totally recommend it to anyone who wants an exceptional feel good novel.
