One kiss can change your life!
What was the book about?
(Book 3 of the Legal Affairs Romances)
Perry Clark works for a non-profit, and her life is thrown into chaos when she has to escape from the Crimea where she was working with two other lawyers. The only problem is that she doesn’t have a passport because it was left behind in a rush to leave. Perry’s sister Campbell sets out to try and get her sister to return to the US with the help of her best friend, Grace Maldonado. Grace has the right diplomatic connections to get Perry out of London and back to the US until Perry can get her new passport. To Perry, returning home is a temporary situation, and she can’t wait to get back out there to help wherever she can regardless of the danger. Grace was Perry’s crush, and it helps that it is Grace who has come to London to help Perry get home. In an attempt to try and make Perry realise that she has a life back in the US, Campbell gives her sister a job at her law firm, and she is to work for Grace. Nothing complicated about that, I mean what could go wrong?
Slight age-gap, romance, friends to lovers, Boss-employee
Ok, I love Carsen Taite books, I have since I read truelesbianlove.com. The characters are always clear, strong and engaging people, and so it is for this novel. If you have read the two previous stories in the series Practice Makes Perfect, and Out of Practice, you will recognise the other characters in this book.
Perry is feisty and caring and is trying to come out from the shadow of the death of her parents which causes her always to keep moving and never settle. Whereas Grace, as the Managing Partner of the law firm, is one who never seems to go off track and has to deal with her politician father and is always having to come second to her parent’s ambitions. You feel for these characters, and you want them to find love and someone to share it with.
This is most definitely the best book in the series. I absolutely loved Grace, and honestly, she’s my favourite character of the whole series. She is such a powerhouse but remains the kind, gentle and utterly beguiling woman we have gotten to know in the first two books.
Perry was crush-worthy. Swoon. And I knew right away when Grace fell she was going to fall hard. I also loved that Grace did not apologise for her romance with Perry. She owned, and that made the whole dynamic stronger and more alluring.
The relationship between Grace and Perry, in the beginning, is fairly firmly based as a “best friend’s sister” dynamic until they share one kiss. That one kiss which brings passion, lust, love, fire and which can’t be denied. Grace and Perry sizzle with heat when they are near each other.
A situation when Grace finds Perry in a meeting room with a woman on her knees is a turning point for the realisation that the kiss was far more than she bargained for and she has to work out if she wants more.
The build-up to these two was intense, and the fact that Perry knows how drawn she is to Grace from the beginning due to her childhood crush is incredible, but the exciting part is Grace’s wake up call to Perry and how she never knew what was right there in front of her. The sex was very sexy. Carsen has turned it up a notch.
Another success from Carsen Taite. A thoroughly enjoyable read and I think I had a smile on my face most of the time I was reading it. You don’t have to read the first two books in the series but I would because why would you want to miss out on such a fun reading material?
Great book! My favourite Carsen Taite book is ‘Pursuit of Happiness’, but this book is a close second. I was cheering on Grace and Perry from the beginning.
