Night Tide by Anna Burke

What was the book about?
At Veterinary school, Lilian Lee and Ivy Holden were never meant to be friends; in fact, foe better describes their tumultuous relationship. So when years later, Ivy shows up as the new vet at Lilian’s practice all hell is about to break loose.

But what was once a hatred has fueled a new level to their complicated relationship – Passion! Neither Lillian nor Ivy know how to be around each other, I mean it could either be a kill or kiss situation.

Can they work together and not create World War Three? Or more importantly, can they keep their hands off each other long enough to try?

Book Pros
In this series, Spindrift was my book of 2020, so you can imagine my excitement when I got my hands on book two, Night Tide. I already felt a massive connection to Lilian in the first book, so I was gearing up for a fantastic book, and as usual, Anna Burke did not disappoint. In fact, she blew my socks off once again.

On the surface, this book is about enemies to lovers, but it is about so much more. It features some pretty intense class disparity between Lilian and Ivy. Ivy is coming from money and flaunting it, being upfront about not being ashamed to enjoy nice expensive things and then you have Lilian who has had to work her butt off for everything she has ever wanted. Money has never come easily for her or her family, so she struggles with what wealth and privilege represent. But on the reverse side, Lilian comes from a happy, supportive family unit. Her two mums love her unconditionally and without expectation. But Ivy’s family have certain expectations and restrictions around their acceptance. And Ivy is carrying around a massive secret that could change her world and everyone around her.

I think what I loved most about this book is the love story isn’t one of perfection or has a fairy tale ending. In fact, you leave the epilogue knowing two things. One, Lilian and Ivy will always have ups and downs, but it’s just who they are as a couple. And two, they are meant to be together in a beautiful soul mate kind of way. And honestly, this made the book even more extraordinary.

Character Chemistry
The book’s chemistry was off the charts, and I was honestly all over the place with the love-hate relationship with these two. In fact, I think the hate aspect really fueled their passion and created some delicious “Rip my clothes off” moments for them both.

Be ready for another saucy sex scene or two much like Spindrift. Wowser!
